i just got a 78 f250 supercab 4x4 and the guy i got it from put a dana 60 in the front and dana 70 in the rear, so i guess you can say it's a f350. anyway in the past 2 years he replced all the brake components, booster, master, calipers, rotors, wheel cylinders, EXCEPT the proportioning valve. i dont know how the brakes worked before he changed the axles, will have to ask him. my problem is the truck just doesnt have that good of stopping power. the brakes feel like they are manual not power. i cant even get the backs to lock up. the tire's are alittle bigger then stock, 16" outlaw rims and a 285 tire.so it's not like i have 44" tire's on it. and the truck almost weighs 7000lbs. i had another 78 supercab 4x4 250 2 years ago with the same problem but i sold it before moving to Phoenix,AZ. so i didnt have the chance to fix it. my question is will i have to change the proportioning valve because of the bigger axles or is the valve just bad. or is that even the problem.i know the valve is not cheap so i just dont want to buy one and still have the same problem. would appreciate any help with this. Paul
i didnt know there was a difference in boosters between the 250 and 350, is there? i cant check the brakes until the truck gets shipped to phx. i'm just trying to get a head start on the problem before it gets here. which should be 2 1/2 weeks. i do know the pedel wasnt low. it was just hard like trying to stop a car with power brakes when the motor is off.
Make sure the brake wire for the PV is plugged in; make sure the valve hasn't shifted to the rear shutting off the fluid ie it thinks there is a leak. sometimes if you bleed the brakes too fast or inproper the valve shifts and no fluid.
