What would be the 3 biggest gains in order on performance on my 99 ZX2 Escort auto
I thought a K&N but I saw zero diffrence I think the intake is big enough.
1: drop a punched out 460 in it
2: put a 200 shot of nos on it.
3: put a super charger on it
in all reality, the easiest is to keep it in good tune. you could go with somthing like header(s), not sure if its a 4 or v6, but that wont do you much good with out porting matchin the head(s). could go with a cam, or punch the compresion up, but for most people, these things are out of reach money wise.
I'm with chrono4, V8 the sucker and go hunting for corvettes....... or do the other thing he said, start messin with the head or heads, shaving them down will add compression too.
The ZX2 responds very well to a turbo. There are a couple of escort related sites, such as www.escortunderground.com, and www.feoa.net. I used to have an escort, and have done quite a bit of research on those cars and turboing those cars. Let me know if you have any questions.
I was wandering along the lines of Platium + 4 plugs Whole new intake, chip, 180* t stat
I want a black factory looking intake that is bigger than whats on it not some riced out yellow one.
Dad said I might/ might not gain with a 180* stat buyt my fan will last longer and so will my gaskets.
So will there be any gains with the mods
180* stat
Diablo sport chip- How well does an auto zx2 respond to a chip?
4 electrode plugs- or just a gimic on the 2.0 DOHC
Intake- is it worth messing with? If so what should be done
What gains will I get from the above?
You got em backwards hehe. Spark plugs aren't worth messing with, the intake is. Get a new intake, chip, header, and you'll have some more power. Thermostats aren't designed to increase power. You may get 1/86 hp out of changing from 160 to 180, but nothing noticeable. It's hard to make good power on 2.0's without forced induction. If you've got the money, turbo. If you don't, you're gonna hit a brick wall pretty soon here as far as power potential goes.
I trick I have heard of is installing a toggle switch on the fan so that you can turn it off and on when you want. If you turn it on and leave it on for a while (say before you run someone) it cool off the engine quite a bit. Which in turn would give you a little more power. The colder the motor the more power. then again I knew a guy that did that once and the toggle went bad. He was stuck in traffic and couldnt turn his fans on, and overheated his engine in his brand new Z28 with lots of mods. His insurance wouldnt pay for it because he had installed the toggle.
The dummy didn't just shut the car off? Geez, you're stuck in place either way, you may as well shut the car off and save the engine. Once traffic starts to move you can start up again, running the heater full blast with the windows open. With the car moving, then you at least stand a chance of getting somewhere without seizing up.
