fan speed selector question

I have a 99 2.5 litre automatic truck. Most times the fan speed switch will not work that i only have high and off options for fan speed(other speed positions result as if it was in the off position. I was wondering if there is another part i may need to check other than the fan switch itself like a regulator or something that may be the culprit other than the fan switch itself. If so where do i look for this thing?

Never had a heater fan apart on a Ranger, but I would imagine there's a resistor block that is somewhere on the heater box that needs replacement. Every time this symptom you describe comes up with me, it's always been the resistor block.

the '88 ranger i used to have and the '93 i have now both had that problem, I never bothered trying to figure it out but as winter approaches i'm getting really tired of having to open my window because i have the heat blasting to defog. i think i'm finally going to look into fixing this.

Thats what you need, a new resistor, it should be on the plenum under the hood, two screws and an electrical connector.
