Difficult starting
Hello everyone. I drive an 05 F 150 FX4 with the 5.4 3v and lately on occasion the engine doesn`t want to start. After a few seconds of cranking the motor it finally starts. It does it warm or cold. I`m wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I also drive an 05 F150XLT with the 5.4L and yes, I'm experiencing the same exact symptoms. That's one of the reasons I'm here looking at the forums - I'm trying to see if there is a fix. I'm planning on taking my truck in for a reflash of the PCM and I'm gonna mention this starting issue to my dealer. Maybe the reflash will fix it??? Good luck and if I find out anything more, I'll post it...

what I brought up isn't a problem but it appears that maybe you do have one. Mine never falters, it takes the same amount of time to start every time.
If yours takes longer sometimes than other times I would have it looked at!

Thanks for the reply. However, I think this is more of a problem (I read the thread you referenced). My truck actually starts great 99.99999% of the time - no problem. But every now and then, out of the blue, I'll go to start it and it won't start (it happened last night when I stopped to get gas). I usually turn the key off then try again and it's always started on the second try. I've had the truck for 10 months (bought new Feb/2005) and I have 13,000 miles on it. I'd guess that this has happened to me probably 10-15 times since I've owned the truck. Very strange. I'm hoping a PCM reflash will cure it...

I've had trouble starting my 04 FX 5.4 on occassion. It seems when it doesn't start right off the first time I turn the key it may take 4 - 5 trys before it starts. This has happened to me more than once. It has always started but not before I've tried starting it a few times. Is this what you have experienced?
