Well, I've had the truck on the road now for a couple of weeks. All seems well so far, I averaged 14.3 MPG with my first tank, not much setting at idle, a lot of intown driving, and some heavy hauling.
Now my question. It has always started right up every time - cold, hot, whatever. Now today after we hauled a two yards of topsoil it started these really weird power surges, no change in exhaust tone or notable RPM changes, but would push you back in the seat all of a sudden, then back to normal. Also it started taking more than one push of the button to start, even hot. It's got around 175000 miles so I'm thinking maybe a injetor pump problem? maybe, I'm not sure.
Any ideas out there?
Also I'm still tracking down shorts everywhere- Hit some RR crossings a little to hard yesterday and now the fuel gauge works on the front tank~ The man who had it before me will surely die from an electrical shock of some type if there is any justice in the universe. (HaHa)
Surging is usually air in the fuel system, how much fuel is in your tanks,if its less then 1/4 that could be the prob as the pickup tubes in the tanks tend to rot causing it to suck air. Also check your return lines for any signs of crackinr, rot or leakage, theu run along the top of the injectors. In fact if they are grey in color then get a return line kit because they are orignal and will prolly cause you hard starts.
that my be it, it was right before I filled up with the gauge showing empty, in fact I was thinking of switching to the rear tank to prevent running out. I will check those lines tommorow. I plan on doing a lot of reworking of lines and wires when we pull the bed to replace it, once a donar is found.
