Mud Flaps - Which Brand???
I bought 2 sets of Husky brand from a local shop here in KC, but I am not 100% impressed with their fit. Even though Husky says they are for my model year and with fender flares... it is obvious they are aftermarket!!
Question... do the Factory mud guards fit better? Are they close enough to the Husky brand that I am better off to stay with what I have? Who on-line sells Ford Factory mud guards... as my local delaer wants $42.79/pair for them!!
Please advise.
Thanks,
Jeff
My local Ford dealer ordered a few different numbers of the molded guards...none fit. Worse, the ones that came close to fitting were fronts. No rears are even listed for newer than an '02, if memory serves me.
My local auto store ordered Huskys, and two other brands. One of these was a two piece with a softer rubbery lip that sealed to the body. None of these fit well either.
All that ordered required drilling, which I am also not apt to do.
I wound up ordering a set of Dura Flaps, which should be here today or tomorrow.
You can check them out at duraflap.com. I spoke to them in person and they are making them for Excursions, but they are no yet listed on the site. They are drill less, and install through existing holes. I am really anxious to see them.
I called my local dealer and the Ford factory flaps are $47.79/pair. On0line they are as cheap as $32.99. I paid $27.00/pair for the molded Husky's I already have.
What scares me is to order the Ford ones and not have them fit any better than the Husky's - what a waste of time and money. It looks like the duraflap is a single (non-molded flap) which would work for any vehicle?
Do you know if the molded ones collect water inside their "mold"? Maybe I am just better off to go with nothing and not screw with flaps that do not fit as well as I amhoping for.
Thanks for the advice.

Back on topic. The Ford ones listed for my truck would have contacted the wheel when turned. I was very dissapointed and gave up. Now with winter coming, I was thinking of the cinders, salt, etc....and figured I'd revisit this situation. Bear in mind that I was looking for XLT flaps...LTDs and EBs may have different rockers. In one case with the Ford parts, the rears were cut to allow room for a molding that some early Exs had along the bottom behind the rear wheels...so there would be a huge gap.
I don't love the looks of these bigger, flat flaps, but the protection will be great. Especially with the beating my Ford chrome exhaust tip is taking. I ordered my Duraflaps with the stainless panels at the bottom. After talking with the company and hearing about the equipment they have, I expect the product to be first class. I know that each one is made for a given application, and the hardware is made to install through existing holes. Again, as much as I prefer the look without flaps..the protection is worth it.
Once they come, I'll be sure to write a review.

Please keep me posted... I may go and look at old fashioned flat flaps and double check that the Husky ones I have will rub or not with my stock tires?
Let me know... and thanks,
Jeff
