I have a 98 ranger that im ordering a cherry bomb for, and my stock pipe is 2 in. in diameter, so do i need to order a muffler with a 2 1/4 in. inlet and outlet so it will slide over the stock pipe. I'm planning on welding it on.

Yeah, go with the 2"; that's what I put on my 2003.
Tell me about your install- I have two 2" x 25" cherry bombs on my 2.3L ranger; one just after the cat to kill resonances, and one over the rear axle. I used flex pipe between the two mufflers, and a turnout with 2.5" tip in the stock location. Just a little louder than stock in the cab for most driving. Sounds nice at higher RPM. Probably louder outside the truck than I think it is. Noticeable increase in power/driveability.
