Maintenence contract?

Hi, My husband and I just bought an 06, 250 truck. We were asked if we wanted the maintenance program. We are not pulling anything with our truck, we just liked the idea that it was a diesel and would last a long time. We only expect to put about 8K a year on it. The maintenance plans is good only for 3years or 36,000 miles and would cost 1400.00. Should we have bought it?
Thanks, Tami

well most of the maintenence you would most likely do in 3 yrs does not cost 1400 dollars. We're talking about a couple of oil changes, a tranny flush, a coolant flush, and maybe some chassis lubrication. All of these are pretty easy to do yourself, and I'm guessing the cost of doing them is on the order of 300 bucks. Even having a shop so this kind of stuff wouldn't cost you but about twice that amount. Anything more major should still be under warranty if you bought it new.

Those service plans are usually a rip off. (now you know one of the reasons we call the place you bought your truck the stealer)

oil filter is 22.00 fuel filter is 50.00 you need a oil and filter change at elast every 5k so about 14 quarts of oil and filter then fuel filter every 15k or less. 1400 seems to high.

Enjoy the truck, I bought one of those plans and realized that it was a rip-off. I cancelled the plan and got my money back.

Wait a minute. Isn't there an additional point to be made. I understood with my '05 - once I turned down the extended maintenance contract - that just before my 3 year warranty expired I could probably get an extended maintenance contract. Now I know there are some questions/ issues with doing this, but tamip might be interested in the option....
