I have an idea. Get something that gets good gas mileage, and is good offroad at the same time. Maybe a Ranger 4X4 w/ a 4 banger. I always thought lifted rangers looked good. I'm not sure what kinda gas mileage they get, cant be too bad.
I think i'll just stick with my truck for now. It might cost a little more to make it what i want, but I know it'll run for a long time and the engine has more capability than a 5.0 or 5.8.
I'll just save up and get some little car to drive eventually.
I know when you get chips for diesels, you gain fuel economy, you might save a little gas with a chip. I think hypertech makes like a 40 horse chip for the 5.4. Get a cheap air intake and a exhaust and you might gain some mpgs, and sound good doing it.
I'm trying this myself, I'm looking for a 97-00 Contour... I'm a fairly capable mechanic so I'm not too worried... my 79 f150 gets 13/18 mpg which isn't too bad but I'd like to be in the 20s... right now I'm playing college and 40 hours a week at work... its killing my GPA but I want a career and have to pay for things...
You can find early 90s escorts for next to nothing... that might be a viable option too..
nothing wrong with 2 modes of transportation. for the longest time if i worked on my truck it had to be done and put back togther by the next day or i wasn't getting to work without a 2 hour walk. BUT with 2 you can always drop the engin and rebuild it during the cold seasons or when your bored. good thinking
