Question Quarts of gear lube?

How many quarts of gear lube should my rear diff hold. It has 355 gears, its on a 2000 f150. I have put in four so far and it still needs more (after replacing the gears). I just want to know if it should hold that much or if Im leaking and just dont know. This gear lube is too expensive to keep dumping it in!

Usually, rear axles are filled to the hole, or close to the hole. Yes, synthetic gear oil is not cheap by any means, but a rear axle rebuild is even more expensive.

I called the local ford dealer today and found out that it takes just under 4 quarts
