Windshield replacement?

Rob,
Rubber on my 65 cracked and brittle. Used a retractable blade knife and cut away the seal on the interior side of windshield until was able to push outward and remove with little force. Did not want to risk bracking windshild so ended up cutting away majority of the rubber. Suggest run a search on 'windshield installation' the topic has come up on occasion. There may also be a how-to article in the 'tech article' forum. Perhaps member more knowledgeable on subject will provide more info.
Ended up damaging windshild storing it and able to locate reasonable windshield installer, that was 2 years ago and no leaks. Suggest call around first, see if you can find reasonable installer. Does not appear the installation is that difficult just did not want to risk damaging the replacement windsheild.
Have another 65 F100 with same leaky windshield as you are experiencing. Intend to replace rubber before winter sets in. In my area, many of the salvage yard have these discount windshield installers associated with them. Got a quote of $70, but I provide the gasket, kinda pricey but may go that route so do not have to deal with locating replacement again. Anyhow, thought would add my $.02.
good luck,
dave

I put a small smooth cord around the rubber after it was on the glass and sat it on the front of the cab with thed rubber on the lip on the bottom of the frame. Pulled the cord out slowly bringing the edge on the rubber into the cab frame, working around to the top. Used the flat of my hand to slap the face of glass to help set glass and rubber into frame. A little dish soap around the rubber helps it slide in. ATook about 15 mins to put in. Good luck.

Is this a 2 man job, or simple enough for a single with no experience before on installing a windshield? As well, I have the same issue and have a '66 custom cab with the ss trim. I believe you must leave the ss trim in while removing the old windshield and then install the trim into the new gasket before installing on new glass/truck?? I need to find a good how-to tech article as well. I like the dish soap trick - thx.
Thanks,

IF run a search on topic should be able to find some info. In August of 2005 jd_sylvia posted topic under 'windshild install/remove and a number of members responded with suggestions. It was in the 61-66 Ford truck forum but suggest run search and not narrow field. Seems windshild application would be simular for most early model trucks. Yes, remove the chrome after removing gasket, and place in gasket before installing windshield.
Notice a number of members posting topic regarding 'leaking' seals. May want to read whether suggested, or pro's and con's of applying sealant during installation.
