My truck just turned 50K tonight. I bought it with a little over 46K on it. I am going to take it in to have the oil changed. What else should I have them do and or look at?
I will be towing a 7,000 trailer this weekend.. Anything special I should have them look at because of this?
Also, I have a slide vibration rattler when accelerating from a stop. Is there anything common to the 5.4L that begins to rattle? Like exhaust?
Since the truck is sort of new (you do not say what kind of truck) or what service the prior owner did.
I would feel good in getting the oil, tranny, transfer case, rear diff. and the raditor all serviced. At least this way you are starting fresh and pulling your trailer will be a lot less of a worry.
Unless the previous owner did some service (I doubt it except for oil), then go ahead and do it all and go to sleep at night feeling good and safe.
Hard to give a 100% answer as I do not know what your truck is and how it is set up. Just checked your public profile and is says you have a 2001 Ford Ranger??? What are you doing in the Super Duty Forum... or am I missing something?

I would also have the ball joints looked at, change the power steering fluid. Start by greasing your rear drive shaft to see if that eliminates your vibration.
I have a 2001 SC SB V10, with a take-off vibration.
It's not lubing, I believe it's driveline angle. I haven't done anything about it, but I shoulda gotten it done under warranty... If you find out exactly what the problem is, let me know!!!!
As for the maintenance, do all the above. I wouldn't necessarily change the rear diff lube, but at least check it. It's supposed to be good forever unless the axle was under water. But check it anyway. I already changed mine over to synthetic at 21K (5 years old). Tranny fluid, unless you can verify the previous owner changed it, DO change.
Sometimes lack of lube will cause the driveshaft to vibrate. Another cause could be the carrier bearing (if you have one). It may need to be shimmed to help the driveshaft angle.
It is definatly a rattle. Sounds like it is right under me. I do not have a L/S or a carrier bearing. Ext Cab, Short bed has the 1 piece shaft. I may look under it and try to rattle things to isolate it.
