[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Apr-02 AT 11:53 PM (EST)]need help swapped a rear carrier and housing out of a 2x2 78 f150 into a 79 f150 4x4 we took the ring gear and pinion off the 79 4x4 to keep the same ratios but now the axles that are on the 4x4 will not fit into the carrier whats up i am trying to help a buddy of mine

Sounds like the axle spline count is different between the 2WD and 4X4. 28 vs. 31 ...err

I would have to say that the axles are a different spline than the differential carrier.
