You get what you pay for with the a/f ratio guages. Most aren't very acurate. You want them about where the factory o2 sensor sits for decent readings.

Any particular reason your wanting the a/f guage? Not much use to em unless you do alot of changes to your rig. Such as supercharges or turbos.

I wouldn't bother with an A/F gauge as it is more of a novelty than anything else. I think if I went to the trouble of aftermarket gauges, I would start with at least an oil pressure gauge and water temperature if you want two. These two things are more important things to monitor than A/F or vacuum. Vaccum is nice for monitoring relative throttle position for maximizing fuel economy, but it wouldn't be the first gauge I installed.

I have the same drivetrain but in an 89 F-250. Can I install an aftermarket water temp gauge and remove the electronic one without setting off the check engine light?

Yes, the gauge uses a seperate temp sensor than the EEC.

The only air/fuel gauges that are any good are wideband ones, they tend to cost more. Also, mechanical gauges are always more accurate then electrical gauges.

Why spend money on an A/F gauge when you can't do anything to change the actual ratio? In my opinion is is kinda pointless on a stock engine with the stock computer.

Yea I agree with EPNSCU, theres not much you're going to do with an A/F Gauge. You already have one, its called your O2 Sensor. You're better off stickin with an oil pressure and or temp gauge, water temp, and maybe a tranny temp gauge. I have a water and tranny temp gauge in my truck i think once or twice I have been able to save the engine and tranny both from overheating. Thats what happens when you're pullin a 23 foot boat in 90 degree weather.

So its okay to remove the temp sensor that is in the thermostat housing and put the probe for the temp gauge there?

Remove the temperature sender that only has one wire. The sensor with two wires is the one used by the computer and should be left alone.

EECEditor and a 40-LED wideband project is very useful.
