Anyone explain how the belt tension range on the belt tensioner works. Where is it supposed to be on the range
My indicator was pegged out on the range on the right side, if not a little past (towards washer resevior). The belt looked a little worn, so I replaced it. No change. I replaced the belt tensioner and idle pulley and now the indicator is even farther to the right of the bracket than it was before.
i noticed something similar in my 89 F250 when i changed the belt yesterday. not too concerned, though. all i did was check the play of the old belt my seeing how much i could displace it with my thumb. when i put the new belt on, i checked this again and it seemed to be a little less, which you would expect.
as you probably know, the tensioner just automatically applies a load to the belt. there's no real "setting it" or anything.
Perhaps someone replaced one of the accessory pulleys sometime in the past with different diameter pulleys. Or the new belt isnt exactly the right length. Is the belt aftermarket??
I replaced my tensioner and belt and it is right in the correct spot on the tensioner gauge.
A new belt should force the idler tensioner pulley downward--and cause the gauge needle to move--I cant remember in what diirection.
Does your new belt make noise l??

The indicator arrow should be within the two vertical lines--I just dont remember which line a new belt should be have the indicator arrow. My new belt caused the indicator arrow to be up against --but inside one of the vertical lines. Isnt the area inside the two vertical lines labeled "RANGE"??
The part number for my new tensioner assembly is:F2UZ-6B209-A.I have a 92 F150 with the 5.0 V8.

yes...it was on the right side of the "range" bracket (vertical marks). Now it is further to the right than that with a new belt and new tensioner. Is this ok or is something wrong?
I would think that the aftermarket belt is slightly longer or shorter--whatever the case. If the belt isnt making noise and isnt wearing quickly and isnt slipping--I wouldnt worry about it.
Try taking the hold of the belt between two pulleys and try to twist the belt 90 degrees--if you can do that--the belt probably has the correct tension on it. Or you can go to a NAPA store and get a belt tension gauge and verify that the tension is correct.
