My 94 has rust holes in the frame so it was time to get the wife a new one..
This 96 awd xlt is like new 80k miles and its scary cause there's little evidence it was used much, lucky me..I have a few things to fix the coolant gauge doesn't go up. I get heat though. Sensor no biggey. I'm gonna do all the fluids and stuff.
Question did they change anything going from 94-96?
What would cause the speedo to move slightly at 60 mph up or down 1 mph. My 94 doesn't and I think the cruize is affected by it. I'm guessing speed sensor in the tranny somewhere. Maybe its dirty etc.
Pertinent to this thread, exactly what year did they go to the electronic trannie on Aeros? I want a later model van but would want to avoid an electronic one.
At the same time I'd want one new enough to have a tougher A4LD than the earlier vans had.

97 has the heaviest duty most rugged tranny, most of the bugs had been worked out by then, most of the large thrust bushings had been replaced by Torrington roller bearings, band breaking problems had been worked out, toughtest bands, improved clutch packs with better friction material and grooved design for better engagement, stronger drums.
one has to remember, the A4LD/4R55E/5R55E started design life as the Pinto C3 3 speed rated for less than 100 hp by Ford France, an almost 30 year old design. later variants ended up behind more than 200 hp and 3 times the torque.
95 was the last "mechanical" A4LD but it does not have all the later goodies
