I am building an off-road truck and need information on wiring my alternator in the most simple way. I don't intend on running it to the ammeter, just charge the battery.
My alterntator is internally regulated and has the following terminals: Far left from rear labeled STA, Top terminal labeled BAT, one slightly lower and to the right from the top marked FLD, and two uninsulated (no bushing) top right hand side marked GRD and bottom unmarked. I cannot find diagrams that match my wire color and direction and assume it has been monkeyed with.
Obviously BAT to battery, couldn't hurt to ground GRD, STA to the electric choke?, I have no idea where to connect FLD (I assume the unmarked one isn't used.)
The wiring harness is gone and I need to know what is mandatory to have connected to charge the battery. Thanks for reading my long winded confusing post!
Are you sure it's internally regulated? I didn't think the internally regulated alternators had a field terminal.
If I am right, this is the diagram you will need. It's for an externally regulated alt.
If you are unsure what alternator you have, go to www.partsamerica.com, and plug in different models of trucks, and click on replacement alternators. Most of the time they have pictures you can look at that may help you identify what you have.
