A few months ago I bought a 97 F-150 extend cab Lariat with the 281 (4.6). It has the 3.55 limited slip rear end in it. I previously had a 93 F-250 with a 460 in it and a 4:10 rear. I think the truck is a dog of course I was used to a big block but i would think that this truck would atleast have enough pickup to beat more of the honda kids that always want to get in front of you. Has anyone else thought that it was a dog of a truck?
Hmm back several years ago, when I had my first diesel,,wow 9 years allready, my truck had troubles and they gave me a loaner, was a 97' 3 door F-150 4x4, 4.6, 5-speed,that s.o.b. ran ! Sounded great,,up to 70 mph like nothing, hhmm so whats going on here ? is it the standard vs. auto?
When I had my 2nd diesel,,I also got a loaner, was a 2wd F-150 4.6,,auto now that thing ran good to,,would smoke the tires no problem ! Maybe its the gearing?
I now also have a 2004 Explorer, 4.6 3:73 this thing goes like a raped ape, and sounds good too,, !
My truck is an auto, extended cab, the gearing i know has something to do with it. It can lightthe tires up good when it's wet out but otherwise i might get a bark and thats it. The wheel hop is really bad when it's dry, so i'm thinking with a gear and a blower on it i could possibly be happy.
