About air breathers ??

I have a 78 Bronco 400 C6 with an oil-bath type air breather. Does anyone else have one that knows if they are better than paper types? Also... does anyone have experience with those K&M filters? Are they worth the money (I also have a 74 f100 360 with a paper filter breather.)

Hi,

I don't know if the oil bath breathers are better or not, I have never had one.

Just my opinion, but I think the K&N filters are a waste of money.

Unless you run the motor > 5000 RPM often/for great lenghts of time, they are not needed.

Also, when I tried one in my truck it cause it to run too lean during the winter, had to re-adjust the carb. I went back to the good ol' FOMOCO paper filter.

You could try searching the archives, this has been discussed in detail before if you want more opinions.

my .02 cents,
-Brents

I have a 78 F-150 that has an oil bath air cleaner. It came factory that way.

I don't know if it is any better, but it seems to work pretty good and I never have to buy any paper elements. It collects dirt, bugs and just about everything else.

I think they may have been sold for extremely dusty areas or maybe to the highway departments and such. They used to put them on a lot of trucks years ago. They are a little messy when change the oil in them, and I figure the EPA might have had a little bit to do with their demise because of having to get rid of the old oil.

I wouldn't get rid of it. It might be collectible some day.

I am going to have to make a short spacer for mine because it hits the float adjustment on the Holley carb I recently put on. But I'm thinking about keeping it instead of buying an open element filter even if it's just for nostagia's sake.
