I ready to buy 4:56 gear set for my 2002 F250 4X4 which brand should I get.
Are Genuine Gears set good gear the ones 4 WHEEL PARTS sale in a package deal are bearings good stuff ECT or should I stay away from them.
I looking for a gear set that will last for years I dont want to buy junk we all done mistakes in the past I dont know about you I hate when this happens.
I am also looking to upgrade the limitted slip rear end either to a better unit or a locker ? old school locker were nosie and would rattle when driving on the street around cornners and would make a load bang when they engaged is there a locker that more a every day driver.
Well marv02, the 4.56 GG's are what I'm running right now in mine. The longevity of your gears is all in the setup and break-in. Bad set and they will grenade not matter who makes them. As far as break-in, drive the truck around until the rear end gets warmed up them find you a big open parking lot. Get on the gas hard, not enough to beak the tires loose, but on it pretty good. Tak it up to about 45, then slow back down, but don't stop. Do this about 5 - 6 times, then drive normally for 500 miles before towing anything. At 500 miles, change the fluid and use as normal.
For the locker / LSD. For a daily driver, get a Detroit TruTrac. It's an LSD, but it's as close to a locker as you'll get without the noise. Or go the expensive route and get full selectables and have the best of both. I run ARB's front and rear.
