no way i'd never gap them that wide! The only way, and i mean only way i'd gap them that wide is if you have a real mean coil on it. I have found that if you have a stock coil (weak) you should gap it about .36- .39. it will really run a lot better. Try it!

sorry about the decimal point! I know what the books say but from tinkering around with these old fords i know that it should be gaped down to .036-.038. If it is tooo wide you loose gas milage because the spark isn't hot enought and the if it is narrow it will not burn right either. So i have found a happy medium. even with new plugs cap rotor and or points you still don't get optimal spark. If you don't beleive me than try it for yourself.
