My truck is an 89 F350 7.3 IDI w/5 speed manual trans. I went to start it Monday and when I went to crank it the motor sounded like it was locked up. I've had this happen a couple of times before but play with the clutch pedal a couple of times and it would crank. This time I tried several Times and it sounded like the battery was going dead. The times it happened before I thought it was the nuetral safty switch. Tuesday I checked FTE and seen where you could bipass this switch. I found one plug on the trans but it only had two wires and the thread said it should have four. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the truck cranked. Could this be the switch or where is it located and could anything have gottin wet as we were in Hurricane Wilma in central Fl and it dried out by Tuesday and cranked. I haven't had a problem since.
The neutral safety switch is located under the dash. In my 86 it is to the left of the steering column. While you can see under the move the pedal and watch the linkage.
One of the rods has the switch housing around it, and there is a small piece of plastic ring that pushes the switch closed when the clutch is on the floor. The other pair of wires in the switch are for the cruise control if your truck is so equiped.
Howdy . I have an 88 f250 7.3 5speed parts truck that should still have a nuetral safety switch in it . If you need one I'll be happy to give it to you . I work for the next 6 days , but soon as I return home I can pull it and send it to ya .
