That Vibration......

Haven't been here in a awhile...

Anyway my 04 just turned 13K. In the last 1000 miles I've had this vibration show up. Most times it's smooth as glass. Four times now from a dead stop the vibration has shown up. I'm talking a vibration right from the center of the truck where the wiper blades are jumping off the windshield. Taking the truck out of gear and drifting does not change a thing, so I doubt it's in the engine or trans. Each time I pull over and stop, take it out of gear and rev the engine few times, put it back in gear and drive away smooth as glass.

Just wondering if they've figured out what's causing this vibration thing yet..

Are you sure that isnt the e-brake sticking? I had that problem, but it wasnt from a dead stop. I would be randomly driving down the road, and it felt like someone suddenly put 4 square tires on my truck. It certainly sounds like it, since you say you can pull over, and it will stop. I can post my work order one the problem if you want.

I doubt it's the E-Brake. I live in S Jersey, it's as flat as a pool table.. I can't remember the last time I used it, but the next time it does it I'm going try stepping on it while I hold the release out.. I've tried slowing down(braking) and speeding up to get rid of it. You'd think that would have released the Ebrakes if it they were dragging.. Who knows though, you might be right??

Yes, the square tire thing out of nowhere explains it perfectly...

The more I think about this vib I can remember it doing a few times while pulling the boat. I even had the tires on the trailer rebalanced in NC last year because of it.

The actuators seize, and cause the brake to hang up. Whether you use the brake or not, it can still happen. Mine happened twice, and I called the dealer, and drove it right in as it was happening. I am almost certain this is what you have. Here is my work order

Concern: Has Rear Brakes Hanging up - vibrating
Correction: Found e-brake accuators frozen. remove l+r rear wheels, calipers, rotors to gain access. removed, free up, and antiseize both accuators and reassembled.

Ford is aware of this, and its a simple fix.

Had same problem E-brake was fault. If you stop when it happens you can smell the brakes heating up at the rear. There is a TSB
