I'm about to place an order and am thinking about what setting I should use. I have an '02, with a straight pipe and K&K intake (no comments please). I believe I have read that in '02 they changed something in the motor that made it risky to use the 100 HP setting. Am I correct? How about the 85 HP setting? Everyone says there product increases milage, and I tend to disbelieave most vendors so I'm wondering what actual users have seen with the different settings.
The difference you are likely referring to, that should make you consider very carefully using the 100 Hp setting, is the use of Powdered-Metal connecting Rods (PMR's). Prior to their use, the con-rods were forged steel, and much stronger.
I believe the change-over date was with the beginning of the 2001 model year. I didn't go back and do the research, though.
The PMR's were engineered by International as sufficient for use at the horsepower levels they want the engine to make, but when you start adding a large percentage gain, you start to run the risk of exceeding the rod's design, and breaking them.
Not a good thing.

You will be fine with the 100 hp setting on the Predator. You're not going to throw a rod with about 300 hp at the rear wheels... People that throw the rods are mostly ones that have a big chip and lots or propane. Predator is engineered very well and a lot of people run their trucks on the 100 hp everyday. With all fuel adding devices, you need to watch that pyrometer..!!! However, if you're going to be running the 100 hp I would recommend getting a Sonnax spring kit for your tranny which I see you have so you are ready to go.
