thanks for the help, it seems to me that most of you recommend the 5w40 synthetic. i think i will try it. i will let you know how it turns out. what auto parts chain normally stocks it? thanks again.

I just got back from a trip into the Colorado mountains. Flat tops to be specific. Before I went I switched to synthetic rotella 5-40w.The coldest we seen was -8 but I am sure it was colder then that when we didn't look at the temp. At one point I didn't start the truck for three nights straight. I had no problem starting in the freezing early AM. I will always use syn in the winter.
