I went to the dump yesterday and picked up a screw on my front tire. No problem, I bought the tire at NTB and and got the warranty. When they asked me what kind of truck I said an F350 dump. They said we don't work on those. I had them look up my history and found the tire that they sold me and the warranty. It was 5:30 and they said to come back at 8:00 to pick it up. I got back at 7:00 and found the truck moved so I thought it was done. The guy at the desk said he couldn't get the stainless simulators off so the couldn't do the job. I said I'll take the tire off. I drove in, took off the simulator and jacked up the truck with a floor jack that was there. The truck was empty and there was no problem. I asked for an impact gun and one of the guys said "I thought 'you' were going to take the tire off". Thankfully another tech came out and took off the tire. They replaced it with a no name Mesa tire. If I hadn't gone back early they would have left me high and dry. What is a good national chain for tires that will work on duallies? Sears has been good with my other trucks. The roadside warranty is the big thing for me when I get a flat and want to be able to go anywhere. Thanks.
You might pay a bit more but, I always find someone local who offers In-Field/Roadside service to the Farmer/Rancher & Big - Rig guys.
If you have a flat they can send a truck and change it on the spot. The upside is they usually have the right load range tires in stock. The downside is the tires usually cost a little more than what you can pay at a good discount shop. I figure if the extra $$ get me roadside service at a good rate it's worth it.
NTB, is really not a nationwide chain. It's a small chain of stores owned by TBC. (Tire and battery Corp.). located i believe mostly in the central and eastern U.S.
It is one of many owned by TBC, including Merchants Tire,Tire Kingdom, Big O Tires. All are moreless regional chains. If the ever tie them all together they would have a nice nationwide network. As far as your warranty goes, did you mean road hazard warranty or roadside assiastance. There is a program available to independent tire dealers and some franchises and chain stores that offer a nationwide road hazard warranty along with FREE flat repairs. I think you'll find most small independent tire dealers qualified and willing to help
Good luck
I don't mean roadside assistance. I buy the road hazard insurance so I get free flat repairs. If I can get a chain that works on duallies and get a flat, one will be nearby where I will be working. NTB has really gone downhill since they were bought from Sears. Lousy selection of tires and they always tell you there is a three hour wait. They no longer have any kind of heavy duty lift. How is Pep Boys, Direct Tire? Need someone in Mass.
Most tire shops won't warrentee light truck tires used on commercial trucks if your truck was a dually P/U that you used for personal use then they may give you warrentee.
The tire shop I deal with works on automotive car tires to off highway tires used on mining equipment. The prices I pay are not that much more most of the time they are the same price. Actually there is only one tire shop in the whole area that just sells automotive tires.
I also don't buy the cheap tires either I had more problems with the budget tires I won't buy them. I have gone to LTX M/S Michelins for steer tires I haven't had any problems with them its my second set. For drive tires I was buying Bandag Retreads the current 450 I bought came with near new M-55 Toyo's.
I'am in the local landfill on a regular basis I never gotten a flat tire from the dump in the 12 years of hauling junk. The landfill here is no pavement or concrete its all dirt so there is lots of sharp stuff lurking under it. Some spots where commercial guys like me drop off a load is muddy during the rainy or in the spring when things start to thaw out. When you sink up to your door sills in mud you know its a little soft
I try not to get in deeper than my axles there is nobody around to help you get pulled back out.
Anyhow if you want tires for your truck deal with companies that deal with truck tires and you won't get the run around and excuses these big chain stores that flog cheap tires. Their goal is get them mounted and sold and boot your *** out the door and they hope they don't have to see you again for a year.
go to discount tire or america's tire if your in cali. they work on all stuff up wheels sizes up to 19.5 inches when it comes to hd stuff and 28 inches for everything else.. in about 20 states right now. and if you ever have a problem with one of their tires and your not near one they'll still take care of you.
