Hey I am hoping someone can shed some light on my problem. I have had my 90 F350 for a bout a year now, and earlier this summer I swapped in a fresh big block. Now that its starting to get chilly I tried to use the heater today, but all I have is defrost, it gets warm, but won't change location. I have dealt with 73-79's all of my life so I know where to look on those, but this dude is all greek to me...could I have forgotten to hook something up under the hood during the swap? Or is it something in the control panel itself? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
It sounds like you've lost vacuum to the controller. I'd look in the engine compartment, it sounds like you missed hooking that hose back up, or its cracked/broken.
The air venting system is completely run by engine vacuum as you probably know.
Engine vacuum is routed thru the firewall to the controller (I;m not sure of the technical name but its the **** you select where you want the heat to blow) Put a gauge on the feed line to the controller. If you've got good vacuum there (greater than 20inHg) then I would check the vacuum on an outgoing port to see if maybe the controller is not diverting vacuum.
If you dont have good vacuum into the controller then its back to the engine bay for you to find the leak.
