Ok guys, been a Chevy man my entire life but recently switched to a Ford. Liked the look of the truck and the power of the 5.4 for pulling my bass boat. Found a 04 FX4 with only 16,000 at a great price and made the purchace. Loved the truck so far except for the the heavy break dust off the front breaks and the weak air in the summer. Over the weekend and twice the other day the truck stalled when coming to a stop. If you put it in park it will restart and run fine. It has me worried as I don't want to get stranded. Looked at the volt gage and it is reading ok. It is going into the shop on Tuesday to get the air conditioner cooler and the stalling issue looked at. Anyone had this problem and can tell me what causes it?? I would like to go into the dealer with at least a idea where to point them. The only thing I have done to it is change the oil and put a K&N air filer in it. Thanks for the help. I can't tell my dad about this as he is already giving me a hard time for buying a Ford. Thanks Greg
Do a search for "Stalling" you will find a lot of threads about it.
Here's my story from one of those threads.
Mine was doing the stall as well. First trip to the dealers they found a "Vacum leak and dirty spark plugs" I don't know how the plugs can be dirty at 24,000 KM butttttt.... Anyway it ran good for 1 day then started stalling again at stops. Second trip to the dealer and they replaced the throttle positioning sensor. Since then (about 3 weeks) it has been fine.
There is a TSB out for stalling when coming to a stop. Also there have been throttle body failures which have produced stalling as well. I believe the stalling TSB specifies a calibration update for the PCM. The dealership should be able to find this infomation in their comuter system.
