I've got a '70 F250 CS which used to be my daily driver. The front cab mounts rotted out, and in the process of looking for a cab swap, I found and bought a whole new truck! (funny how that happens) Anyway, I want to sell off the '70. The engine's great (only 68K, it always had a camper until I got it) but the body's shot. The 2 bbl carb's rebuilt, and there's new king pins, and a rebuilt C6, but I don't feel comfortable selling it on the street (the steering is starting to bind unevenly 'cuz of the cab mounts, and I don't want to keep explaining). I can't pull the engine or tranny for lack of time and space. Should I junk it for $100 or post it on ebay and hope for more?
Heck in the San Franciso bay area Pick-N-Pull's have "old trucks" mid 80's up, 67 thru 72 era is one in 75 my guess. Over the last 30 years I have been given over 20 360/390's a few 428's, you lift it it's yours. I've thrown away good blocks 360/390 that DSC or DCS sells for $200 and rusted up.
Wish you could do something like that here. I want an FE to build up for my truck for the spring, as well as some new gears. Factory motor I believe was a straight 6 and a previous owner put in the 351w, but the gearing is way out of wack.
If it only needs the cab mounts replaced, it is worth saving and repairing. What else does the cab need? Try selling it in the different forums and maybe ebay before you junk it. What kind of truck did you get to replace it?
Junk out, you nuts i'm a pack rat. I just struck a deal by adding a 391 crank and FE flywheel (428) to my junker 427 block that I got last weekend for $500
and have everything sold for $1,600. Money added to the "I want a good 427 top oiler block fund". I threw away a 428 block but it had a rod kicked out with main and pan rail busted. From a complete 71 truck for $50 that had to be disassembled. I got the disc brakes, crank, driveshafts in my truck and C-6 for spares sold the rest for parts.
if you are into the old stuff the pick and pull in stocken has 4 mint 67-72 trucks. not rusted good glass and drivetrain so something to look at. 2 still had the original paint.
I would post it on eBay. It's funny, because old Ford trucks are a dime a dozen around here. A buddy of mine has over 40 of the 67-72. He'll give me a part here or there, but he won't sell anything to me. Go figure? He picks them up for next to nothing. I showed him a rust free swb 70 with a 302 that I bought for $1900, and he thought I was nuts.
hutch1973, It's only a FE 360, rebuilt 2bbl carb. I'm in Milwaukee. If you beat the junker's offer, it's yours. I agree, it's hard to find stuff here in the rust-belt. The FE's great, but the body's shot. There's nothing that dosen't have bad cancer except for the tailgate and the mirrors. It sat outside it's whole life. It needs a turn signal switch to keep it drivable, but rust has had it's way through everything. I'd like to keep the old FE, but my new truck is a '69 and it has a 460 w/ C6. Everything in the new truck is better than the old one, and most nothing will swap over, and I don't need it to. I'd replace the floor boards in the '70, but rust goes way up into the firewall, almost to the heater core. The radiator core support is shot, the fender aprons don't exist except where the hood hinges are, and I don't really need another set of "Western or West-Coast" mirrors. The seat is perfect, as is the ash tray, but that's about it. It has zero trim, no radio, just the delete plate. The fan shroud is perfect. There's really nothing left; just a solid 360 with relatively low miles. Hey, all you other guys that live in states without huge amounts of snow and salt, what do you do when 1/8" steel expands to 1/2" of rust flake and dissolves at the touch of your finger? Don't hate me 'cuz I gotta unload; I live downtown in a rented space with no garage. I bought my "new" truck off Ebay, flew to pick it up, and drove over 2000 miles to bring it home. (Not only do I think Ford, I believe it.) There were no problems on that long drive back, except that I broke the power steering belt. $24 later I was on my way out of Missoula, MO and back into Milwaukee. The '69 is my daily driver now, and when I gotta get a screw loose or a bolt undone, it just comes off, I don't need 3 days of PB Blaster. I still swear by the FE's, I just have a new rust-free truck with a 460. The old '70's up for grabs.
Hell if I wouldn't have bought an engine on ebay last night I would have bought it for the fe block. Really get what you're saying though, up here you reach a point where the body is gone beyond repair. Sounds like you did the smart thing in going south a bit for your next one. I paid 2k for my 68 on Ebay just because the body looked good in pictures. It's impossible to find a solid body up here anymore, and if you do the guy wants 4k for it.

Darn, now I have to go buy them! Will need to make a trip this weekend.
