Cool Diablo Predator problems

Just bought a diablo predator got it today, and tried it today first I installed the 85hp setting with hard setting on the trans just to see what it was like, unimpressive to say the least and the tranny won't shift till 3100 rpm, fine I didn't plan on using that setting anyway just tried it for fun so installed the 60hp economy setting with the trans set on firm. Once again absolutly not much more power except it will burn the tires which it wouldn't do before, and it once again won't shift till very high rpms, and the 0-60 times is slower than stock (timed it before and after setting the tune). Biggest difference i seen is there won't be any mosquitos around cause this thing smokes worse than my old 1206 international tractor that was turned up 30% with a hard pull even at part throttle.
Ok now the problem decided to put the trans back to stock setting with the 60hp setting and it won't take it, and it won't let me put the stock tune back in claiming that it can't reprogram over a performance tune, and that it never saved the backup. Basically it won't let me put it back stock, won't let me change the current settings flat won't let me back in at all, and I have tried for the last 2 hours to call diablo and get nothing but a busy signal. From what I can tell it doesn't have my stock tune anymore in the predator, and I flatly don't like this tune or the way it runs or smokes (can't even drive it around town without blacking out the entire block) so far I think this was a waste of money, and now I am SOL cause i can't even go back to stock so please someone tell me what I can do here, and hope like heck this doesn't mean I have to buy a new ECM for the truck cause that won't make me happy either.

Did you try the "force" option when restoring the backup?

No I haven't. Is there anything I need to know before using that option. I was worried that i wouldn't be able to use the truck doing that if something messed up, and this is my daily driver.

What are your boost levels before and after the chip? Also are you getting enough airflow?

Yeah man I'd check out that boost. I really think something is wrong here. I'm so happy with my Predator and mine doesn't smoke much at all unless I'm on the 100 setting. Something must have happened while you were loading the tune because doesn't the Predator automatically backup the stock tune before loading a performance tune?

Yes, it won't load the performance tune unless it backs up the factory tune first.

Ok, I pulled the air cleaner, and prefilter off, and tried it doesn't smoke as much and is a little more responsive so that is definatly part of it. put the air filter back on without the prefilter and was still ok but even cleaned it doesn't like the prefilter on it so guess that is gonna have to go. But I still don't like the holding gears and still can't change that back.
Sorry can't give you boost levels due to not having gauges in it yet, mainly bought it for a boost in mileage and some added power for towing which is mainly towing the race truck during the summer so wasn't worried about gauges yet (besides the wife says I have to leave her something to buy me for christmas)
yes it is supposed to automatically backup the stock tune before loading the performance, and apearently it did because it let me change from the 85 to the 60 with no problems but won't let me do anything now.

geez... sorry to hear about your probs with the predator... mine loaded up fine after i did the "backup" of the stock program... and the power increase is VERY noticable.. and the boost levels which only max at 17 with the stock tune, EASILLY go to 26 with only the ECONOMY tune loaded... now... put the 85hp tune in and you BARELY need to touch the throtle to get the truck to really move..!

predator

Other shops who sell all types of controllers & do testing themselves, have told me they have had & heard of the Predator causing computer problems/failures. They DiD NOT recommend the Predator. It was on my short list but was taken off due to too many negative comments. I bought the Edge evolution Very happy w/ performance & mpgs (27 on a 2k 4x4 X.

I hear you there Johnny. I don't even bother with more than the Tow/Haul tune for everyday driving. Anything more and the smoke just rolls and the throttle is jumpy. Trying to not waste the fuel and smoke is wasted fuel. $$$$ Plus I start to feel guilty about smoking out the people following me. Hard to control if you have a stick shift.

I plan on getting the gauges before the winter is up one way or another, but for now it's mainly just for the mileage. I am done towing the race truck till spring, and thats about all I ever tow anymore.
But I still got to get this thing so I can change tune when I need to or it's pretty worthless.

I just checked Diablo's website and it's still down.

I'm impressed with the Predator so far. No problems at all. the tow/haul setting is perfect for daily street driving. The truck can actually keep up with the Accords, Camrys, and other minivans. The 60HP setting is not useful as a daily driver. It's best used on the freeways where it can really shine. Once up to speed, the acceleration is awesome with the 60HP setting.

I really have no use for the "firm" and "hard" tranny settings. The stock setting shifts early which is great for fuel economy.
