I have a question that isn’t covered in my owner’s manual for a 1998 Limited Edition Explorer.
When you start the vehicle at nighttime the headlights illuminate automatically, actually all of the running lights illuminate automatically without turning the headlight switch on.
After the vehicle is stopped and the ignition is turned off the lights stay on for approximately three minutes.
Is there a way to disable this feature? I find it bothersome to keep looking out side to see if the lights “really” go off or not! I can’t get an answer out of Ford; perhaps there is a supplements guide for the Limited Edition that I’m missing.
I have a 96 5.0 AWD Explorer. Mine has the auto-headlight feature as well. The control for mine is on the rear-view mirror. It is one of the auto-dimming mirrors and has a slide control at the bottom. This turns the auto-headlight feature on and off and also will set the delay-off time (0 to 3 minutes I think).
Good luck,
Chuck
I also have a 5.0 AWD but mine is a 97 and i dont have that slide feature on the mirror nor do my lights come on. is this related to a limited only? because mine is an XLT.
