I'm working on putting the peices together for a intercooler. Trying to get a intercooler on e-bay for a decent price. Then I think I'll get a pipe kit from GTS Motorsports. You also can try to find a early 99 y-pipe manifold and the have a muffler shop bend your pipes.... I'm hoping to get mine on this winter.
ive retroed a 6oh cooler into mine. Used the standard intercooler kit from gtsmotorsports.com and stuffed it in. With the 6oh and stage 2's i was always making 5-7 psi less boost and more hp/ faster 1/4 times than everyone else. IMO its the way to go, so far its held up well 6k on stage 1's (23-25 psi max), 24k on stage 2's (34-35 psi max) and now 1k with stage 3's (uhh need new gauge 45-50 psi maybe pegs 35 lb gauge in blink of eye). Anywho some people say the plastic endtanks of 6oh cooelr will split and leak, obviously they hold up pretty dang good.
This subject has peaked my interest. What kind of improvement might be seen from a basically stock 97 truck with intake and exhaust mods? Would this require bigger injectors and a different tune? I want to learn more about what all is involved.
stock injectors will work fine, no need to upgrade them unless ya want more power. However i would recommend installing a smaller turbo exhaust housing to help elimintate lag caused by adding an intercooler. Not sure on the egt drop i did alot of other mods at same time as intercooler, i would guess with a 6oh cooler you would probably see 200-300* drops.
