I know I've researched this before, but how difficult is it to rebuild just the clutch pack?
mistercmk, thanks for responding and trying to explain the concept - that's what's great about the people who post here. I was aware of why they do burnouts, but I also believe that some racers use the line lock at the starting line, up their revs, then just push a button when the light tree falls instead of mashing the throttle, hence the 'launch' reference.
Mines at 63000 and still holding strong. As to tires spinning in the rain maybe you can try starting out in second, or less throttle, haha. Thats what all that 'down low truck moving ' torque does!
Its not that bad rebuilding the trak-lock unit. They do have rebuild kits out there for the stocker, you just pull it out, and replace the clutch discs. Its just more time consuming than difficult.
You could also put in a different differential, such as an Eaton, as they will work better than the factory ford unit.
thanks mister! I'll look into the kits (hope they come with good instructions!)
LOL, Who wouldn't love a better differential? but for my very rare use of the truck off the road I am not sure it would be worth the cost to get that kind of traction. Heck I'd love it if I had traction on the streets, lol.
