Dash light

I have a 99 ranger with the fuel lamp out and I want to know how to replce the bulb that is out.

You'll need to remove the instrument cluster and then remove the socket and replace the bulb, I like to replace all of them so I don't have to do the job a second time.


Instrument Cluster
Removal

Disconnect the battery ground cable.

Pull out the center instrument panel finish panel.
Remove the screws.
Pull out the center instrument panel finish panel assembly.

Remove the radio and center instrument panel finish panel.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.

Remove the hood latch release handle.
Remove the screws.
Remove the hood latch release handle.

Remove the instrument panel steering column cover.
Remove the screws.
Remove the instrument panel steering column cover.

Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
Remove the four screws.
Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.

If equipped, position the column gear shift lever aside.
Pull out the cluster finish panel.
Remove the screws.
Pull out the cluster finish panel.

Remove the cluster finish panel.
Disconnect the connectors.
Remove the cluster finish panel.

Remove the instrument cluster screws.

If equipped with an automatic transmission, pull out the cluster and remove the transmission range indicator.

Remove the instrument cluster.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
Remove the instrument cluster.

Installation

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to learn the strategy.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

And, if you are lucky like I was, you will get it all back togather with only 1 screw left over. Good luck.
