Tranny 5r55 Atf Level ?
Hi Again Everyone,
Just Wanted To Get An Idea Of Something I Noticed In My '01 Explore Sport With 5r55 With 1o Quart Atf Capacity. As Far As I Know, It Never Been Touched, As Per Oem 100k Interval Change Out - Fluid And Filter. So It's Last Been Filled At The Factory. But When I Check The Level On The Dip Stick, I Notice That Level Goes Slightly Beyond The "full" Mark At Full Operating Temp And Even At Ambient Temps Is Above The Mark. It Appears To Be Overfilled, So What If Any Decrease In Mpg, Performance Will I Typically Notice With Such A Condition? I Always Here That Under-fill And Over-fill Are Not Good For Tranny Operation, But In This Case It's Slightly Over Filled And No Apparent Problems. Any Thing That I Should Look Out For Or Any Other Suggestions? Thanks Everyone.

Hi FordExplorerSport. Your trans is probably overfilled by maybe a half-pint, but I wouldn't worry about it. Unless it's extreme, overfilling will not affect your mpg, blow out seals, or do any damage. If it's really high on the dipstick, the trans may 'burp' some of it out when hot and cause foaming of the fluid, but yours dosen't seem to be that full.
You could always get a suction pump and pull out about a half-pint, but it's really not necessary. An underfilled trans is much more serious......
