HELP: EXPLORER vs. BRONCO?, WHICH?

Hi guys... maybe this is not the right forum but which, in your opinion would be a better buy (soon to buy a Ford Truck again!); an Explorer or a Bronco (both mid-1990s models) given that fuel economy is an issue and that off-roading capability is not required although it'd be nice... Please state as many pros and cons as you can so that I can invest my money wisely. It would probably help to advise you that I have had a Bronco (loved it, except for the gas) and a friend of mine has an explorer and so far so good... I am 6' 2" BTW... Thanks a bunch!

Hi Calazo. Since I have both an Explorer and Bronco, I'll try to help. Either one will have adequate headroom for you. The Bronco is a little roomier inside, but it gets poorer mpg. Basically it boils down to the fuel mileage; you'll get about 12-15 with the Bronco, and maybe 15-20 with the Explorer.

I'd also consider the parts availability in Bogota, and which type vehicle you see the most in your area.

A mid-ninetys Bronco would be my pick, IF you can stand the lesser mpg, and that's a big IF.

I have 3 Explorers: 91, 92, and 97. I have found the old Explorers to be very repairable. Where I live (Riverside County, Southern California) I see many of the 91-94 Explorers that are still driving around. I hardly ever see any of the older Broncos. I don't know why that is, it's just an observation. Probably at least 90% of the old pickups I see around here that are still in service are Fords. Since Broncos are Ford trucks I'd expect to see more of them. I find it peculiar.

There's a reason why Broncos are not made anymore and Explorers are. When the Explorer came out, Bronco sales slipped and the Expedition a few years after Explorer wipped Bronco's off the production floor. I suspect not many of them left at this time.

If you do go with a Bronco, make sure it's not white. That OJ stigma is still out there.

They killed the bronco to make the expedition. New body style=New name in this case. They are the equivalents though. Both the bronco and expedition are the SUV version of their respective model of f-150. And they wanted to offer it in 2WD. They never made a 2WD Bronco.
