Searching On Line for Parts
I have gotten in trouble a few times by not paying attention to what search result I was clicking on.
I googled “Flathead Transmission” and I got several thousand Hits. As expected I saw all the tried and true places to either talk about Flathead Transmissions or to buy parts.
As I scrolled further thru the Hits some strange stuff started to appear. When you click on these things you usually end up on an adult site or a place that will zap your computer. I wasn’t careful last Jan and I ended up reinstalling all my programs.
A word generator is used to match your search parameters and builds the resulting Hit.
A typical hit would look like this
The first one ford transmission parts flathead, lots of ford….
Find out flathead transmission rebuild when another ford explorer sport – inch suspension lift kits is found by a mercedes benz automatic transmission is….
Fordtrucks.zapto.org/ford/transmission/parts/flathead/ - 3k
Supplemental Results – Cached – Similar pages

Look at the wording in the description
: find out flathead transmission rebuild When another ford explorer sport – inch suspension lift kit is found by a mercedes benz automatic transmission is .
It doesn’t make any sense at all

Then there is the URL address:
fordtrucks.zapto.org/ford/transmission/parts/flathead/ - 31k
The key ingredient here is the ZAPTO.ORG. That is what sends you to the bad stuff
Also used is NO-IP.INFO, GETMYIP.INFO, YI..ORG and a whole host of others.

Another thing to look for are the letters .nu, .bl, .ru, al, .zw. in the hit address. Those letters are designators for foreign countries and the sites are bad.

Texan,

Actually those of us that have been here at least a few years feel quite lucky to have had Kenny and now George as our moderators. They are/were both great. We can get a little carried away sometimes and they know just how to rein us in without coming across as the bad nun with the ruler.

No smart remarks to spoil the moment either...

I to have found much success using car-parts.com. Many of the parts on my 55 have come from using this site. Shoot I have even found parts locally this way. I have had a higher success rate sliding these parts past Mama when I say they came from the junkyard. I have not had a bad experience yet with a yard misrepresenting the condition of their parts. Also one thing I learned about Ebay is to search by ALL categories. No everybody list parts in the Motors category of Ebay.

Thanks again for all the replies. I'm finally back home and hopefully will have time to visit the sites that have been posted and get to work on this thing. I have been looking for good online searchable databases for molded radiator hoses, mufflers, etc.

Dianna,

Welcome to the board!! You have definately found the place to get all of your questions answered. There or tons of people here that can answer any question that you can come up with, if they can't answer it they canuseually give you some kidn of answer that will put a smile on your face.
When you get a chance get a gallery set up so that we all can "OOH" and "AH" over your truck.

As far as bed wood and strips, I think there are several places that may have them;
Mar-K
Dennis Carpenter
Bob Drake
LMC truck
Bruce Horkeys Wood & Parts

I'm sure that someone will come along soon with some personal sexperience with the bed wood.

Nice to have you here

Most of the parts places for stuff seem to be on the east coast I have had good luck with National Parts Direct they don't order on-line but have an extensive catalog, I also like Sac. Vintage Ford www.vintageford.com and they are located on the west coast which cuts down on delivery time and cost for us out here in gold country.

There are definately a lot of great links being posted. I starting on trying to get them in some sort of order.

If you guys have particular information about the links please share that also, personal experience/customer service/ good or bad

Does anyone have any ideas about how we can post these once they are all together so that there is easy access to it. I am by no means an internet or web site wizard so do not quite know what that all entails

Any and all ideas are appreciated

Thanks
Bobby

Please stay away from any evaluation of customer service or related issues for specific companies. Since this article will end up on FTE, we don't want to endorse or slam specific vendors.

It's certainly OK to say that XYZ company seems to have a wide selection of parts. Don't make statements such as "XYZ company screwed several members and is not recommended" or even "There have been some issues with customer service at XYZ company".

We'll have to walk a fine line even with positive comments like "XYZ company has really fast shipping". I think it might be best to provide a link and a description of the types of items or services provided. Make no statements that could be taken as an advertisement in any way.

George,

Very sound advice, I hadn't even considered it. I think that we will limit any comments to a brief description of the parts offered.

Thanks again,
Bobby

Gentlemen,
I hate to do this but I'm going to have to drop the ball. I have been completely swamped at work and there isn't any sign of it lightening up any time soon. When I get off at night any free time that I manage I try to spend in the garage instead of in front of the computer as my truck is almost street legal (not pretty, but street legal).

Here is a list of links that people have submitted. I just have not had the time to visit each and every link to see if they are good and to see what products or services are offered.

I apologize for not beeing able to finish this out...
