amen brother..! i mean really...! like i told one guy... pull some big hills in overdrive... with 3.73 gears... towing 10k lbs.. without slowing down below 72 mph... without shifting out of overdrive... and get over 12 mpg doing it...! they don't make a gasser that will do that...! and if a gasser has anywhere near the power of our diesels... and is geared low enough to pull a real load... it usually will get 4 or 5 mpg while doing it...! good lord...! i don't think some of these guys even KNOW what a diesel is...!

They know what a diesel is. Thsy're just scared of the "unknown", and unwilling to take that "leap of faith" like we were.

Shush! If they find out, they'll drive the prices up. ;-)))

i think a turbo V-10 would be pretty cool. but its still a gasser. let them go think, i like my diesel the way it is, being the only one around here with a big loud smoking truck (but we have two V-10s too and i dont like to drive them because of no wicked wheel )

Strokin_it7.3 you hit the nail on the head with the turbo.
It's the turbocharger that gives all the power. It has to do with the amount of air/fuel ratio that the engine is able to burn.
A turbocharged V-10 would always be the first to the finish line in a 1/4 mile drag race. That would be one FAST truck. Capable of incredible top speeds, more than the chassis would be designed for.
The diesel would be out of the hole faster, but would quickly be overtaken by the gasser. I'm not sure what the outcome would be in a 1/8th.
Hook up a 10,000 lb load to it, the gas engine will still win a drag race.
50,000 miles later the diesel is still pulling strong, the gasser will have melted down.
It's all in what the best use is.
A non turbo engine is only able to draw in so much air whether it be gas or diesel.
Add a turbo and it increases the amount of air taken in, then you can add more fuel.

the only brand new car i ever owned was a dodge shadow turbo... i know i know... i was young and dumb... but... that little car could move... the guy at the parts store where i worked told me about a turbo upgrade you could do that would allow the engine to almost double the power output... what was the catch...? he said the piston liners would be burnt out within 25k miles at which point the motor would need a rebuild... you hit the nail right on the head kwik... diesels are capable of doing so much more work AND still last a long time...

sorry about this post, but i needed to vent a little, on friendly ground..! all i did was tell those guys the honest truth about the difference between a gasser and a diesel... and the responses i got were downright nasty... i suppose no one likes to be told that there is a better motor for your truck than the one you have... but really... i was just telling them how our v10 at work couldn't hold a candle to my 7.3.... i guess the truth hurts...

If you think a V10 eats gas now, add a turbo and then look at the fuel numbers.

Loved my Ol' 73 460 with 429CJ heads and intake. Would pass anything but a gas pump. For distance, I had 68 gallons of fuel, that's to maybe travel 400 miles. Yea, I still loved it. Now I have a PSD and love it even more. Diesels are the way to go without any doubt.
