I've got a 76 Ford F-250, with a 360. I ran out of gas a few months ago, and every since then, my truck dies very often. It acts like it's out of gas. I can usually pour a little gas in the carb, and it'll start right up.
I've already replace the fuel filter twice, and the last one looked like new coming out.
I've replaced the fuel pump, but hasn't changed at all.
Cleaned the crap outta the carb and my wife did the gas treatment (yeah....that's her solution to every vehicle problem....).
Sounds like you might have picked up some trash in the carburator you might have to pull the top off and see whats in the bowl area. The only other thing i can think of is the pickup in the tank might have trash in it.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-May-02 AT 01:37 AM (EST)]Is taking the top off the carb something an idiot can get away with? I can figure a lot of this out, but I've been warned to be careful taking the carb apart, if I don't know how to put it back together. And how do I go about cleaning the bowl area out?
And how do I get at the pickup in the tank?
Thanks for the help... I really like my truck... It's just gonna get me killed with some of the places it decides to die lately.
to clean the carb wither use carb cleaner or remove the carb from the intake manifold and clean it by hand. use a little deasile fuel. it's not that hard to rebuild a carb. just take your time and be paitent
I think you may have clogged up the sock filter in the tank. It's on the end of the pick up tube. You could try blowing air back up the fuel line to the tank to losen the debis. Take the gas cap off and don't stand next to it cause sometimes gas will spray out it when you do this. Do it out side.
