Yes, there is a picture of one in Rick's garage in the club link section. I think about a 63. Later, Greg58

My Standard Catalog of American Trucks book shows 8' stepsides were factory available thru 1979.

Good call Thom! (That one slipped right past me) Just to add, I believe the 8' "Flareside" beds were only availiable on the 3/4 ton and 1 tons.

I was only being a wise-acre, of course; :-) But as a matter of fact, the so-called "Flareside", although its' design had been utilized since the beginning of time on trucks, had only began to be called a "Flareside" as a result of the introduction of the "Styleside" bed in 1957. Before the "Styleside" was introduced, there was no choice of box style for the Ford! As to availability, I'm not so sure about the 8' Flareside being only an F250/350 option. As far as I can see, one could order an F-100 with either a 6-1/2' or 8' Flareside bed.[/FONT]

thanks for the little history lesson. ive never put any thought into when they were first made. i like the looks of the flareside better than the styleside. i'm not sure how an 8 foot would look. i'm goin to need a new bed for my 82 before to long and was thinking of a flareside, i'll probly end up with a styleside. i'm getting a 63 f100 with a 6 foot bed that needs to be restored with any luck i'll find a flareside for it.

You are right, Thom. I looked it up and the option of an 8' "flareside" on the F-100, became available from 1956 on.

i'm in massachusetts. i dont have the truck yet. as soon as the weather is warm i hope to pick it up. its going to be a while before i'm ready for the bed. my wifes uncle bought the truck a few years ago and has never had it running. ive got my work cut out for me, its well worth it.
