Interesting...

I took my son to see the race at Martinsville yesterday.

One thing stuck out to me as we were walking back to my truck. I noticed that there were a bunch of SuperDutys in the parking lot, but a lot had V-10 emblems on them.

We did a count. 63 SDs total...26 diesels, 13 V-8's, and 24 V-10's.

Not the #'s we are told that are sold....

Are you trying to say the numbers are false? I don't htink ford has any reason to lie about the numbers.

thats 63 out of millions, don't take that as an accurate sample.

No, I am not meaning to imply that.

I was told (when I bought my truck) that the V-10 is not a common engine and that most people that bought the truck for towing go with the diesel. The salesman at one dealership said the V-10 would be a negative at resale.

Needless to say, I bought from the dealer that did not try to push me to the diesel.

Sounds like a lot of very well informed people hang out at Martinsville.

Sounds like a lot of very well informed people hang out at Martinsville but I have never seen another 05 V10 here on Vancouver Island but there is only 800000 people over here. Rare is beautiful and a thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Ford and the dealers pushed the PSD because 3% of $40,000 is always more then 3% of $35,000...just that simple

With Ford taking a 500 million loss for 2004 mostly due to warranty work on the 6.0L I bet the wished they had pushed the V10 harder.

The V6, V8, and V10 modular series have beaten industry reliability averages EVERY year of production. So what a few plugs blow and the IAC gets gummed up?...the average user reports less then $500 life time repair for this motor series. That is an awesome record that is only beaten by European and Asian motors.

There are pockets of V10s all over the country. I find them every where I look in Virginia, mostly the Chassis cab with work truck commercial bodies on them. Some very large companies have fleets of hundreds of V10 trucks.

Think about this there are over 4 million SuperDuty trucks on the road. If the dealer buyers guides are correct and they only produced an average of 15% with V10 power then there should be around 600,000 V10s on the road minus the one I assassinated. Every airport I use has the V10 powered people haulers. A majority of all Class C motor coaches use the V10

I would bet there are at least one million V10 motors in service if you also count the generator sets and water pumps

For a little power pack that nobody knows about it is still out there in pretty good numbers. I doubt it will ever get the recognition it deserves but that just adds to the wink and nod camaraderie all of us get to be part of.

I think if I win the lotto one of the things I would like to do is buy my way to a upper level Ford social event and get the Vice President of marketing to one side out on a balcony and beat some sense into him (figuratively speaking, I am really a non-violent person). What a stupid fellow, of course this is just my humble opinion.

I've been seeing LOTS of LIRR (Long Island Rail Road), MTA (Metro Transit Authority - NYC), LIPA (Long Island Power Authority), Keyspan Energy (natural gas), etc. etc. trucks all over the place - SD's - 350's, 450's, 550's, with V10's !!!

I'm seeing all sorts of fleets around that are predominantly V10's... I'm seeing less and less PSD's

Somehow, somewhere, the word has leaked out that the motor will last 200K + with maintenance, and fleets are starting to get the idea. Maybe the PSD was too much to take...

Either that, or they all have CNG or LPG systems in them

How I agree with that statement . Many of the places I have travelled , the 6.0 has a tarnished image and you very seldom hear anything negative about the V10 except the gas hog myth and that is spread by people who have never owned one but they know of a friend of a friend............. How many of us V10 owners, myself included have found our V10s to be the most economical gas powered truck we have ever owned.
Yes 10 burning and 4 turning has turned out to be the wisest choice I ever made in any vehicle I have ever purchased.

The fact that it has introduced me to a bunch of interesting, free thinking gentlemen
from all over North America, ...........well, that's just a little extra icing on the cake.

i have to agree with fred and wrench, the v10 around me is very popular as i have seen at least 50 different trucks with the badges, even had the cop who wrote up the report when i banged bambi with mine drive mine . he said he had a 6.0 and hated it. next i know he's up and ordered a v10- 06,
just seems a lot of people are getting the news this is the great motor for the s.d.
thanks fred i love mine

What's up with quoting people and not putting the quotes in bold or at least, using the site's [QUOTE=xxx] tags?

Wrench, you're one, 390gashog is another, and I've seen more and more people doing it.

Sometimes, I see someone replying to something without calling out the quote, and it looks like that person is saying what they are quoting - I've had to re-read a few posts to make sure I don't blast the person for quoting someone else...

I'm going to take this up in another forum soon ...

the web site prefers if some one is replying to a post just over the one your answer to use post reply. that pulls the thread so your answer is right under the one you want to.

Around the Lexington, KY area where I live..The V-10 is a rare occurence to see on the road. Everything is the PSD. All of the fancy horse farms and work trucks seem to be the PSD..I'm always on the look out for the V-10 badge and very rarely see them.

But I still got my V-10 Ex which I'm badging with the new V-10 badge as soon as I get back from Texas..

I miss my V-10 Ex..
