Tranny cooler

I would like to install a tranny cooler on my truck. 1983 F-250 300 C-6. I have thought about using an old A-C condensor unit. I would attach rubber lines to the original tranny lines then adapt them to condensor. Where would be the best place to mount it? Directly infront of radiator? Truck needs radiator repaired/replaced and I have located a rad. from manual truck. I have friends that derby cars and I could get a condensor free.

Thanks.

I would not go down the path you are headed. Get an auto tranny radiator. The radiator helps warm the fluid in the winter when it's really cold, and that helps the tranny shift better.

I used the AC condenser on my 85 F-250 as a tranny cooler. The lines still run through the stock cooler as well. I had to get some 3/8 elbow fuel fittings, I used a dremel to extrude hone them slightly to fit over the ends of the condenser lines, and just used JB Weld to secure them. Got some extra cooler hose, and hooked it up. It gives you a little more fluid capacity, and my tranny doesn't get too hot anymore. I did the conversion in late spring of this year, and have had no problems with it at all. It takes a little longer, but my tranny still reaches normal operating temps. Just make sure you clean out the condenser first.
