Wow did i score big today.
I was talking to the boss (at work boss not at home boss) about doing some metal work on my truck today. I mentioned that i have to make some long cuts in 3/16 mild plate and wished i had a plasma cutter.
WELL, he told me they have a cutter that needs a new tip and it would be about a 400 dollar bill to fix so it was put aside. Instead of repairing it they bought a bigger one for the shop, cuts up to 1/2 inch.
I asked how much he would want for it and he said.... Ah how about getting it out of my way, it has been here taking up space for three years.
so i now have a plasma cutter.
free
well almost, needs repair but im not looking in this horses mouth.
Be sure your compressed air source for it has a filter/water trap. Plasma cutters dont like any moisture, only clean dry air. Unscrew the tip and take the consumable out and look at the head-is it bad-can you see damage? Check the power unit for a filter dryer also that could be plugged. Alot of these rigs go out from no maintenence, maybe save you some bucks. I have an ESAB and I love it. Dont use it that much but when you need it nothing else will do. Have fun.
