just replaced the heater core on 90 aerostar, not fun. your site helped a bunch(thanks!) We found that the hose we bought 3/4"did not fit onto the water pump has some kind of bigger end on it. Is there a special hose that fits? Also could you please tell us which hose goes to the top of the heater core and which goes to bottom? top to water pump? It's getting cold here so any help would be much appreciated.
I know exactly what you are talking about. The 3/4" hose will not fit. For some reason, Ford chose to use a "bell" shape formed hose, where it flares out slightly to fit over the water pump connection. This hose is available at the dealer, and in my case, had to be special ordered. It was there in 48 hrs. This correct hose, fit on perfectly. Here's what to do if you are in a bind. Cut and reuse the flared "bell shape" hose ending. As long as it's not cut, or leaking at this part, you will be fine. Leave about 1/2" of the hose, where it narrows to a regular 3/4" heater hose. Then simply get a 3/4" to 3/4" hose connector. You can easily connect your hoses with new clamps, and it will not leak. On my Aerostar, I insulated all of my heater hoses in this area, with common foam pipe insulation (cheaply available at Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware) and secure with nylon ties. This insulates the heat inside the hose, protecting the hose from engine heat, and uneeded hose heat to the engine. This quick remedy rewards you with toasty warm heat in the winter, as well as keeping the heat in the hoses "longer" during the cool-down period. This translates to quicker and more efficient warm-up times, especially in damp, cold, chilly weather. Ed (My Aerostar is a 3.0v6 with front and rear heat. Both work perfectly...).

Nice site, 96_4wdr! I have it saved for future use. I like those sites that actually show a picture of the part, when possible. Thanks again. (AutoPartsWarehouse) Ed
