hello piper 350, welcome to FTE!

as far as mileage- most stock trucks seem to run between 15-18 mpg. i was at 15.7 when i bought mine, and now with aftermarket programming, it is around 20 mpg. pretty impressive for a 7800 pound rig. since stock tires are 31.5'', you dont really need to add a "lift kit" to get 33'' tires under there. i have a leveling kit, that lifts the front to equal the height of the back, and im going to get 33'' tires and 18'' wheels soon. most people do a 3-4'' lift when putting 35'' tires, it just looks proportional. but then, most likely you have to re-gear lower to neutralize the effect of the larger tires, it gives back lost power that the tires took away, and it also corrects your speedometer. as far as engine modifications go, go ahead and buy a truck, we will all go into more detail and help you when you get it, because there is a "set list" of modifications that are really cheap that most of us do. things to search for are: CCV mod, kwik filter, ZooDad mod, 4'' exhaust (i have MBRP and love it), and Sonnax valve/Tricumulator springs (for the transmission, automatic). i have all of them done to mine, check the gallery if you would like.

BUT: be careful coming here if you have a small wallet, these guys here will give you PMS (Powerstroke Mod Syndrome), a condition that is uncontrollable and is temporarily cured by a wife, and permanently corrected by maxedoutcreditcarditis or emptywalletitis. Sell your house, by a travel trailer, and spend the money on the truck

Ditto! I'm living in the barn! If you're not already, you'll be a "shade-tree" mechanic before you know it. There're quite a few "PSDiesel Sage's" here at FTE. I've had many a vehicle in my day, all gassers. If you're lucky enough to decide to get a diesel, stand by for a life changing event. SpringerPop said it best "...becomes part of the family", you don't "buy" a diesel, you adopt one.
