2001 ranger 4.0L V6 "E" (vin code) I have cleaned the EGR valve, replaced the spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the MAF, replaced all 3 o2 sensors and replaced the upper intake gaskets. I still get pinging under moderate to heavy acceleration. I think my next step is to replace the EGR valve or the MAS. Any thoughts on what else i could try?
It runs great while driving, i think i picked up a few horses i was missing. But now it's struggling to idle, it bounces between 700 to 1000 rpm's. Almost like i'm reving the engine. What could cause that???
I found the problem!!! I went back through my check list of the things i removed and i noticed the tube that runs from the ABS to the intake manifold wasn't attached. It looked like it was because the EGR valve is blocking my view of it. I assume that it's a vacuum line, but why is it attached to the ABS? (It's a "box" with 4X4 printed on it and break lines coming out of it.)
Not sure just what you've described with the vacuum hose attachd, but I'd think it might be something like the vapor recovery tank.
Maybe because it's in close proximity to the lines, it just looks like the brake lines are coming out of it, or maybe what your seeing is the ABS motor & the vacuum hose just appears to run into & be attached to it.
I don't have any vacuum attachments on my 99 ABS motor.
I was reading another post on here and I could be wrong but it sounds like it's a break assist of some sort. I kind of turned my nose up when the auto industry started adding all the Emissions and computer chips, I wish now i payed more attention. Although i am learning a ton of stuff on here!
my rebuilt 2.9 pings like hell the engine it replaced two years ago never pinged in 260000 miles, this one did from day one and no one can find out why! two different shops cant tell me why?? thinking of going to ford dealer but they will probably tell the same thing!....i think its just the crap we get for gas anymore!
You know sadrok I was reading your origional post & noticed we are talking about a 4x4, & you said the box that the vacuum line went to, had 4x4 on it, so if it has the vacuum actuated front hubs I'll bet it has something to do with operating or feeding vacuum to them.
