Just put my 04 FX through a tough work out in Cozumel with Wilma. Truck was flawless through 100 + mph winds and 3 feet of water. Now all the carpet is wet and smelling like a wet dog. What do I do? Need some good info on what needs to be looked at and how to dry out my once virgin truck. BTW as I was in water up to the headlights with the wind really ripping I kept thinking about all the complaints on this site about the 150. Sorry to disappoint all the nay sayers but my truck didn't let me down! FORD TOUGH
I would suggest removing carpet and clean with water hose thoroughly then give it a good shampoo. Entire floor board should be cleaned before re-installing dry carpet. If you could take it to a professional detailer would be best. Your insurance may cover the cost of flood damage. I would also be concerned about wheel bearings and other items underneath. I sure am glad your FORD did not let you down!
If the carpet is just wet, not inidated with fetid water, a good wet and dry vacuum should do the trick. After vacuuming the excess water out, allow to dry then shampoo and vacuum a second time. The wet dog smell comes from the dirt you tracked on to the carpet.
If the water was high enough to enter the cab, you probably need to remove the door panels and clean and dry the door cavities as well.
If you decide to remove the carpet, removing the seats may be necessary but will definately make the job of re-laying the carpet and cleaning the floor boards easier. It will also let you inspect the underisde of the seats for water damage.
Remember, water will go everywhere that is not sealed so more than the floor boards may be wet.
Do not forget to check your differentials, transmission, crankcase, & etc. If your ride does is not equipped for high water then these at a minimum have pressure relief points that may allow water in and may cause damage. The longer they are under water the more likely troubles down the road.
