Define: "BLOG"

I have heard a few explanations, and to me they don't sound a bit different in any worthwhile way from a message board or forum.

At first, I was inclined to believe that a BLOG was a "Babble LOG". An online record of someone rambling on pointlessly (I know. I resemble that...).

Does anyone here have any kind of definitive, rational explanation as to what exactly makes a BLOG different or unique?

I think they are pointless. All people do is start them things up and moan and whine and gripe about their lives and nobody gives a rats rear anyhow. They are kinda like an online diary, and why would you want to put your personal business online?

I've heard that a few times already- "Online Diary". Hmm...

Then again, I have also heard them described as "Online Diarrhea"

Like Superblue says, it's just short for weblog. From those websites where the owner posts his/her thoughts for the day, their log, so to speak.

It seems to have morphed into anything anyone posts on a website/bb/forum.

places such as www.xanga.com , or www.myspace.com, are places where people have accounts, and they just post random crap about anything. i have an xanga account. i try to post alot, mainly i "babble" about my truck and everything, mods to it, i talked about how i removed my turbo and forgot to replace the o-rings in the second to last web log entry. i think it sounds stupid to say BLOG (say it outloud), i prefer to call it a web log or something. in my last post, i asked for opinions on styles of wheels for my truck, im getting new shoes soon for it.

A personal on-line diary for all to see and join in.

IMHO a waste of time for anyone over the age of, say, 15.

Blah blah blog.

boring log. that good enough? I call it something else, but the filters would block out my words, and somehow I'm almost positive i'd be banned for saying it.

other than that, I can honestly say, BLOGS are a waste of my time, time I have to spend doing other things, like being creative to fix the numerous faults in my bf's car, and get my 40 1/2ton up and running then painted.
