Carb & Header Question

I have a 1977 F-350 2wd w/4.10 gears and a 460ci. I bought it recently, and it has an after market Holley 1850 (650 cfm) carb that I had to have lean jets installed to pass smog. The truck runs great empty and I haven't towed anything of serious weight yet.
Is it worth it to upgrade to the stock carb, or to a bigger (750 or 850 cfm)? It is not a daily driver, so MPG is not a real concern.

and...is the expense and headaches of headers worth the performance inprovements?

I only have to comply with the Federal smog standards.

Thanks for your help.

Carb & Header Question

d,
Headers do give you increased performance. They can also burn up your starter and spark plug wires. They can crack and they can leak at the collector. They are louder than cast manifolds and increase engine compartment temperatures. To answer your question, yes they are worth it! I would wrap your considering how cramped everything is with the 460 setup.
The 1850 carb is not holley's best. You may consider just enrichening the secondary jets. This would give you power when you needed it. The 460 could use a 750 but, a double pumper uses gas like nothing else. You may consider swapping carbs just to take your test and then swap back. I've gone to more trouble than that to pass in the past.
Consider it.
