Big six questions

I'm considering a big bronco in my current vehicle search, and I was wondering how the 300 six works out in a bronc. I love that engine, and I think it would be adequate for my needs. What years did the Bronco come with that engine? They seem pretty rare...

as far as i know from atleast 1980-1992or1993ish. They came in the f150's until 96' i think. try asking it on the inline six forum on here, they might have a more specific answer for you. I have an 82 bronco w/a 300 and would only change it to a 469, nothing else(thats if gas was $1/gal again).hehe

Yep, the 300 was available in the Bronco through the end of the 1993 model year. Its nearly impossible to kill these things. A friend of mine rolled an 87 F-150 side over side three times and when it came to rest wheels down the 300 was still humming away. We still aren't sure why the inertia switch failed to shut things down.

I have a 87 bronco with the 300 and I love it. I test drove this one first (was not looking for a six cylinder) and test drove a couple with the 302 (85 & 89). To be honest I could not tell much difference between them except for maybe a little more acceleration speed in the 302's.

After talking to a few local guys about the 300 they pretty much sold me on the engine so I purchased the bronco with the 300 and I have had it one year with no problems. I have heard the idea that the bronco is too heavy for the inline 300 engine but i couldn't disagree more.
One of the guys that I talked to has a mid 80's F-250 with the 300 and it gets used hard as a farm truck, he said that the body will probably fall off the truck before the engine quits.

The 300 is actually a truck engine vs. the 302 which is more of a car engine. It doesn't rev as fast as the 302, but it has lots of low end torque, which is exactly what you need to get a heavy car moving.
